  1. Look far away, often. The 20-20-20 rule — every 20 minutes, look at something roughly 20 feet away for 20 seconds — is popular because it's easy to remember, and it happens to fix both cause 1 and cause 2 at once. The exact numbers don't matter. The habit does.
  2. Take breaks that involve standing up. A real pause away from the desk does what a 20-second glance can't: it changes your posture, moves your neck, and gives you several minutes of distance vision and normal blinking. This is where a rhythm of breaks earns its keep.
  3. Make the text bigger. Genuinely. Bump the OS scaling or zoom your editor and browser a step. Nobody has ever regretted this.
  4. Fix the lighting. Get the window to the side rather than behind or in front of you, kill the reflection on the panel, and match screen brightness to the room.
