Where StopBurnout fits better

Your workday starts at different times, and you step away between tasks. StopBurnout’s active-work timer and recovery credit can fit that irregular rhythm without a list of websites to configure. Its break screen is a temporary overlay; it does not log you off or shut down your computer.

Use Notification mode for a gentle prompt, Password-locked for a password-controlled exit, or No way out to remove early-exit controls from the break screen. The locked modes cover all connected monitors. You choose the work and break durations, and time away counts toward recovery.

Where Cold Turkey fits better

Cold Turkey is the better fit for granular blocking rules and resistance to deliberate bypassing. It can also schedule time away through device blocks. It would be misleading to describe it as only a website blocker, or to claim that StopBurnout is harder to defeat.

What to know before switching

Both products offer local data storage and one-time licensing. Those are shared strengths. Cold Turkey supports Windows and macOS, while StopBurnout supports Windows 10/11 x64. StopBurnout’s two-machine limit is also narrower than Cold Turkey’s personal-use license.

Enforcement has a limit: StopBurnout is not tamper-proof. Windows Task Manager can end the app. Its value is a firmer everyday boundary, not an operating-system lock you cannot override.

A practical way to decide

  1. Identify the actual problem: distractions, missing time records, or working past your intended break.
  2. Try StopBurnout on a normal Windows workday. Start with a short work/break cycle and check every monitor.
  3. Compare whether you take the break, how often you override it and whether the routine fits your meetings.
  4. Buy the lifetime license only if that boundary is useful. The trial needs no card and does not automatically charge you.

Try the boundary before buying the license.

Use all three modes for 14 days. Check that the timer, your monitors and the break routine fit your real workday. If they do, one payment unlocks continued use on up to two Windows machines.

Is StopBurnout harder to bypass than Cold Turkey?

No such claim is made here. StopBurnout removes ordinary early-exit controls in No way out mode, but Task Manager can still end the app. Cold Turkey documents more extensive anti-bypass controls.
